Bangalore: In today's ultra competitive business world, the job of an executive in an organization is quite demanding as he/she is required to give his level best in order to increase the productivity of the business. However, to become successful, executives need to posses several qualities that are quite important for them like enthusiasm, self confidence, proper management skills, excellent communication skills etc. Apart from these qualities that are quite essential for executives, there is one such unappreciated quality that executives can't do without, that it is the quality of "Resilience" that the successful executives must have, according to a Forbes article by Forbes contributor Victor Lipman.
According to Victor, in this corporate world the higher the executives go the more people they are required to please. Hence their jobs become more demanding with the passage of time as they only need to concentrate on boards, clients, workforce, direct reports, markets, analysts, regulators, sales forces, distributors, communities, special interest groups etc and as a result they are not able to indulge in their own personal affairs relating to their spouses, children, friends and all the circumstances of life outside work. As the political and the economic scenario are unpredicted and uncontrollable these executives need to spend most hours in a day by working so that nothing goes wrong in the business.
Further, Victor says, that the more individuals reach professional heights the more chances are there that he /she may fall down and witness failures related to business like a multimillion dollar project loss, a bad quarter or an upsetting personal disagreement. He notes that it is easy to rule the business when everything goes well but it is not that simple and easy when things are not moving in the favorable direction, as you will be surrounded with disappointments which in turn may upset you the most. In such kind of a situation it is the only quality of "resilience" that can prove to be a healer, because it can pick yourself up, pull yourself together, and enable you to move beneficially forward when you feel like least doing it, instead of getting surrounded with frustration, anger and sadness, it is the quality of resilence that will facilitate you to move further. On the basis of his own experience, Victor suggests that it is important for individuals to track how he/she handles failure than success.
