Mumbai Extends Hand Of Aid To Admit UP Rag Boys In IIT
BANGALORE: It’s admission time in the IITs and students are all set to start the new career venture.
Students like Anshu Ahirwar, the son of a daily wage earner and Biresh Saroj, who will be enrolled in the next academic year are now highlights of IIT admission. They are economically deprived candidates, who are multi sourcing to make their way up to the classrooms of IIT Mumbai.
Anshu from U.P. is getting assistance from UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. In an interview with TOI, Navneet Sehgal, Principal Secretary, UP information department told “The CM has taken cognizance of the issue and sought information about the boy. We will speak to the student and announce some help at the earliest.”
Anshu’s phone continuously buzzes since the morning with aid calls from banks, rich executives and financial institutions.
On this Anshu comments, "I have been constantly busy on the phone and meeting people. Some of them dropped by at the IIT campus to give me their contributions. Others have promised to help. A company has said they will give me a new laptop on Monday. It feels good to know that these contributions will take off a burden from my father," People of Mumbai has also stretched their hand to pave the career of this seventeen year old from Orai, a small city in UP's Jalaun district. Anshu intends to get admission in Computer Science department and secured 13th rank(SC category) in JEE.”
Anshu’s family is also stunned to see the extent of help Anshu is getting for his acadamics. His father, Teekaram, comments, "I had promised my children that as long as they concentrate on their studies, I will put the best efforts to ensure their fees are paid. Until yesterday we felt that no one cared about the poor. But seeing the number of people who came forward to help, that perception has changed."
Brijesh Soni and his brother Raju also from U.P., are among the top 500 IIT crackers. The Dalit brothers are receiving equal response in case of financial aid. UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav promised teh borther a token money for appreciation and laptops for the achievement. To this Brijesh comments, "I always wanted to start a chain where one gets help and decides to help some more people. This way a lot of sincere students will get a chance to study at a place of their choice."
