Indian Youths Prefer Unexplored Careers over Traditional Ones
BENGALURU: Time for decisions and some drastic steps have approached. Sounds like someone preparing for battle or revolution, right? Well, for the students who just finished their HSC or graduation exams, that is the case. Traditional career choices that have been preferred by most for a long time have been the Teaching, Banking, IT, Engineering and Medicine. But recent reports by TOI reveals that a good amount of students now-a-days are choosing out-of-the-box careers.
As if the new era to explore the unexplored has begun, students are opting for extra ordinary careers and coming out of the traditional stereotypical careers. They are now pursuing courses like cosmetology, fashion choreography, flavorist, landscape architecture, arbitrator, wine tasting and many more.
It is assumed that today’s youth are willing to do something challenging and different from the conventional way. A rapid change has come in the world recently with advanced technology and science and as a result, wide opportunities have opened for students to pursue. Sanjay Savant, a psychologist from Kapurbavdi said, “Just like how the market had opened up for telephone networks a few years ago, a similar global market has opened up for a variety of other careers. There are over 20,000 careers for the youth to try their hands on today.”
“Earlier, people would take up a job even though they would not be passionate about it and that became their career. The GenX, however, has gone beyond this. The multiple courses that are on offer in the market have helped students sharpen their skills,” said Ambareen Pradhan, Director of Energia Wellness, an institute that conducts aptitude tests and career counseling.
