BANGALORE: After India became the permanent member of the Washington Accord, the news of the engineering degrees being recognized in 17 countries including the U.S., Japan and Australia is making the rounds. The Washington Accord is the international agreement for accrediting undergraduate degree programs, reports Economic Times.

Apparently, Indian students have considered to have met the academic demands to take engineering practices in any country. The Washington Accord aims at providing quality assurance and flexibility across the countries and besides the recognition for the engineering degrees, the international accreditation agreement also ensures minimum global quality for all the institutions around the country. The mobility of the engineering students from the globally recognized Indian Institute of Technology have never been a problem, it is only the non IITians who have been having problems with them. 

Human resource minister Smiti Irani said, “This will ensure highest quality assurance standards to be implemented in our technical and engineering programs and provide global mobility to our engineering graduates. Graduates having degrees, which have been so accredited, would have substantial international equivalence of their achievement levels across the signatory nations. This will substantially enhance their employment opportunities around the world."
