Increasing Mobile Dependability Opens Job Avenues
BENGALURU: Mobile usage is increasing beyond expectations and is showing no signs of slowing down. Multiple uses of smartphone have increased the need for developing new applications that make mobile technology an essential part of professional and personal success. As a result, immense requirement of skilled employees like developers, managers, and strategists has emerged in the Indian telecom and mobile industry. The telecom and the allied sectors is booming with high investments and will be generating more than 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the coming three years, as reported by Business Insider.
According to India Skills Report 2016—a combined initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), LinkedIn, and Association of Indian University, a growth of 20 percent in hiring is forecasted in the telecom industry in 2016. This finding has proved to be a turnaround for telecom sector, which was marked as an industry that hired lowest number of employees in 2015.

Furthermore, with the increased dependency on mobile and internet—82 percent of the urban and 18 percent rural population—along with escalating subscriber count for services such as fixedline, wireless, and broadband is also generating large number of jobs.
The major hiring will be done for the engineers amounting to 43.17 percent of the overall vacancies. The next on the hiring list are the diploma holders from Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) amounting to 25.18 percent. 14.39 percent of the total hiring is estimated to be for management graduates while the remaining 17.26 percent will mark the miscellaneous positions.
Furthermore, employers have not made any major notable changes in their pattern of hiring. Considering the benefits like decrease in attrition, low sourcing time, and minimum cost internal referrals are marked as the most preferred method of sourcing in this sector. Other preferred methods for recruitment are job portals and social media while consultants have lost their position as the sourcing channel.
