IIT-K Motivates Graduates With 'Work For India' Campaign
BANGALORE: IIT, Kanpur (IIT-K) has introduced 'Work for India' campaign that aims at stimulating students of the institute to reside in India and work towards its development. This campaign has been set up as, a good number of students of the institute after graduating migrate to western countries either to pursue a Ph.D course or employment. This has been experienced on an annual basis.
Prof Indranil Manna, Director at IIT Kanpur stated that this initiation has been undertaken similarly to motivate students to work in Indian Engineering Services (IES), government or semi-government organizations, and in public sector companies. This measure of the institute has also won the support of alumni community as well as the government of India, reports TOI.
Prof Manna says, “It is a fact that many students who had studied in elite institutions like IITs have shifted towards lucrative foreign packages and are now pursuing their careers in multinational companies. To achieve and uphold 'Make in India' and the 'Vision 2020' dream, India requires these bright students to stay and contribute towards the betterment and advancement of the nation."
For the IIT-K session elite technocrats that include NHPC, GAIL, ONGC, general managers of Indian Railways and many others were present to address the issue. Ajit Kumar Mishra, AGM of Indian Railways has disclosed that the demanding opportunities were accessible in Indian Railways. He also informed the congregation about the authority, power, and perks present in public sector companies.
Other Speakers brought in entrance exams pertaining to the preparation tactics, subject’s preference and managing time. A few senior consultants brought in a number of aspects for taking up such jobs. Prof BV Phani, Dean of Resources and IIT-K alumni announced that the institute is all set to stimulate the students to choose jobs in India via a number of sessions, awareness talks and one on one interactive session held along with well-known alumni of the institute. These alumni will help rid some serious negativity and myths regarding government jobs. They will help brighten career opportunities that are presented for new talents on the campus.
