IIT placement 2014: Women Bag Top Placement Deals

BENGALURU: The campus placements are going on vigorously at IITs across the country and there are some remarkable developments that have happened and deserve to be notified. Recent studies have shown that women do better in placements, and this is yet another instance where women have come on top to bag the highest packages on the first day of the placement season, reports TNN.

In the ongoing campus placements, it was noticed that a woman candidate among three students bagged the highest package at IIT-Bombay. And it was also revealed that  two women candidates were among the five students that Facebook hired this year from the campus. Furthermore, at IIT-Kharagpur too, a woman was among the three, who got top deals. 27 companies made 163 offers on day one at IIT-Kharagpur with 42 lakh being the highest offered domestic package.

IIT-Delhi fared well too, where about 15-20 women got great offers. At IIT-Madras, the numbers went up from last year's 95 on day one to 158 this year, said placement coordinator Babu Vishwanathan. The highest offer made at Madras was around 80 lakh. At IIT-Roorkee, four students bagged offers from Google, Oracle and Microsoft, whereas at IIT-Bombay, the number of day one offers went up from 182 to 215 this year.

Although 1.42 crore was the highest package offered this year to an IIT student,  women in this field has always been less as compared to their male counterparts. A student, who got a position at San Francisco, said, "This is the main reason why lesser numbers of girls manage to get top deals. This year, we have only five girls in the batch and most of them managed a good deal."
