How to Break Out of a Career Rut

BENGALURU: When you lose interest in the job, or you don’t get excited about it anymore, that’s when your career is in a rut. You will not have mood to go to office, you do not have anything to contribute to the projects and your position remains stagnant without any promotions. Once you find yourself in that situation, you feel dejected. Here are few suggestions that you can follow to overcome your disappointment, according to Brinda Dasgupta of ET.

Introspect

It is always better to introspect and give some time for yourself to comeback strongly and face the challenges. Introspection will assist you in  identifying reasons for your stagnation, and you can take steps accordingly.

Be Proactive

Doing the same work over and over again becomes monotonous. Be proactive, come out of your comfort zone and take up new initiatives, this will help you look at different things and with a different perspective. Talks to your managers see if there are opportunities that you are not able to see for yourself.

Be flexible

You need to be flexible enough to do various task to get out of that monotonous routine.  This will help you grow and stay ahead of the curve. Watch out for traps that may lead you to fail and figure out effective ways to change the situation.

Embrace the new

If things don’t work by being proactive and flexible, try changing work location. May be a new place will help you focus on your career, with new people and new work.

Focus on Upskilling

Technology and skills become obsolete or redundant very quickly. Upgrade yourself with additional skills that can help you in your career. Depending on the profession, you should constantly look at opportunities to upskill oneself, whether in technology, domain or leadership skills.
