Growing Demand for Energy Professionals

Bangalore: Since the increase of energy consumption and green house gas emissions become one of the main concern for nations, renewable energy professionals are in high demand. Environmental reforming is to get a boom as around 40 percent of the world’s green gas emission is from buildings, ET Bureau reports. According to the ET report,“there will be a demand for around 1,000 energy and sustainability professionals.”

The new job market for energy efficiency and green collar profession will be primarily dominated by engineers and architects.  As it unlocks the biggest opportunity in renewable energy sector, it could draw a number of people from various fields as well.

Talking about Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED), which was developed by U.S. Green Building Council to represent and integrate rising green building technologies more accurately, "With the introduction of the LEED Green Associate accreditations last year by the GB Certification Institute, more professionals from diverse backgrounds are keen to consider this career option," said Director - Engineering & Operations Solutions (West Asia), FM, Jones Lang LaSalle India, Rajat Malhotra.

LEED-accredited professionals are much required today as it helps architects, engineers, and other building professionals on the cutting edge of their industries.  Approval for green buildings’ design from a LEED-accredited professional becomes a necessary today.

While energy deficiency becomes most concern and global warming is one of the most talked, energy management takes a key role. Bringing a high demand for energy professionals and there will be an increasing demand for sectors like hospitality, retail and healthcare also.

"There are possibilities of a regulation that will mandate a certain base level of energy performance of a building," Malhotra said to ET Bureau. "The demand for accredited professionals and their services is set only to increase."
