Ericsson Cuts Down 3000 Jobs and Ends 140 Years of Swedish Production
BENGALURU: When you think of the first mobile phone with walkman facility, then Ericsson is the immediate image that pops on our mind. The company founded in 1876 by two talented pioneers, Lars Magnus and Hilda Ericsson, started with a simple vision to connect people through technology. According to Gadgets now, the mobile telecom equipment maker is planning to close the Swedish manufacturing site and with that laying off 3000 jobs in the country.
The manufacturing units of Ericsson in Boras and Kumla are likely to be closed citing issues related internal documents. The shutting down of the units in the country has ended 140 years of production in Sweden. The Jobs that will be affected will be the company’s business network area including the network product division.
The total number of Ericsson employees around the world is 1, 20,000 whereas in Sweden alone there are 17,000 employees. The Gadgets Now even reported that it is roughly cutting down the operational expenses to a minimum annual savings of 3 billion Swedish crowns in the second half of 2017 compared to 9 billion in 2014. For the same, Ericsson is also trying to adapt from a developed market of building advanced networks to a weaker market.
The union representative Per Norlander also informed Swedish radio that the decisions are not final. “It’s absolutely not certain they will be closed,” he said.
