Engineering Preferred Highest Among Indians

BENGALURU: The career prospect in India has changed drastically in last few decades and rise of information and technology sector has largely influenced on the contemporary career trend in the country. Hence, engineering jobs have gained huge demand and prominence, accordingly, the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering conducted a survey to check the fascination that the Indians have developed towards the tech based engineering jobs and survey revealed the expected, as reported by the Business Insider.

The survey revealed that around 80 percent of the Indian students are passionate about the engineering jobs and it was conducted on students who were of 16 and 17 age groups. Relatively, gender gap seems to be shrinking as 85 percent of Indian men and almost 79 percent of women are obsessed of the tech jobs, hence the space between the gender obsession is 14 percent.

The rate of obsession rose to 81 percent, when the survey was conducted on the age group of 18-24 year old students and it hit 87 percent with the 24-30 year old youths. The figures proved that India has the highest engineering job obsession compared to any other country in the world and is also the higher than the global average, in which 66 percent of men and 43 percent of women are fanatical of the respective profession.

Founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy said “This boom is partly due to businesses wanting to make use of the comparatively cheap production and talent costs. In the future the Internet of Things will undoubtedly create more job opportunities across all branches of engineering."
