Economic Gloom Keeps Aspirants Away From B-Schools; CAT Takers Down By 9 Pct

Bangalore: The move by IIMs to increase the number of available seats to attract talent seems to have not gone as planned, as the number of Common Admission Test (CAT) registrations record a new low this year, reports M Ramya of TNN.

The number of CAT takers has declined by 9 percent (20 thousand registrations) and has reached 1.94 lakh entries, which is the lowest in the last five years.

However, the number of entries with little or no work experience saw a jump of approximately two percent compared to the previous year. Rohit Kapoor, Convenor, CAT, was quoted saying to TNN that, "It is understandable in our current economy that many working professionals choose to acquire greater work experience before diverting attention from their employment to undertake an MBA".

As per experts, the gloomy perception among graduates about the future job prospects despite having a management degree has had an adverse effect on the turnout for the registrations.
