E-Commerce Emerges as the Hottest Career Destination

BENGALURU: A recent survey by Nielsen Campus Track Business School in 2015 has revealed that e-Commerce sector (28 percent) tops the list as the best career destination for B-school students, reports Economic times. E-commerce as a popular career option is followed by Fast Moving Consumer Goods, (24 percent), foreign banks (21 percent), financial institutions (19 percent), management consultancies (19 percent) and large business conglomerates (18 percent).

The reasons behind this demand among the students are namely the brisk startup activity, big-ticket fundraising, multiple success stories and a cool quotient. A report from earlier survey states that from the top 11 B-schools, 1 out of 9 students of 2013-15 batches will be joining the e-Commerce firms. Hindustan Unilever remains the most preferred destination till date for last 5 years.

As per the survey, the rate of e-commerce companies climbing up the index is higher than the FMCG companies but they are yet to make it to the top list. Flipkart is at 26, Amazon at 34 and Snapdeal at 49.

Ajay Macaden, Executive Director, Nielsen India said, “Established e-commerce companies have moved up significantly in the recruiters’ list in the past couple of years—and it’s a wait and watch to see them enter the top 10 lists. This may be attributed to the fact that many are startups, or with increasing funding are expanding their business over time.”

According to the CRI rankings, the FMCG companies that scored a rank in the top 10 list are HUL and Coca Cola. The banks like ICICI, HDFC and HSBC have claimed 2nd, 3rd and 5th position in the list. The B-Schools students chose HUL, ICICI Bank and Google as the top three employers.

Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and MD at HUL stated that, “At HUL, the ability to identify, hire, groom and retain the best talent has been honed and developed over several decades and remains one of the most important agenda of my leadership team.”

The report also reveals a raise in expectation of the salary by the students up to 17.8 lakh, which was 17 lakh last year.
