Domestic Help to PUC Topper; The Success Story of Shalini
BENGALURU: Shalini, a 17 year-old 12th Standard student from Bangalore scored 84 percent. This may sound usual to us. What is not usual is that Shalini is one of those students who defied all odds worked as a domestic help, while going to school and yet managed to score distinction in her Class 12 board examination.
Shalini who aims to become the first engineer in her family did not succumb to the muddles she faced in life. As it is said, the real test of life is out of the examination hall and Shalini had the toughest paper to answer. Shalini’s father, who is disabled from an accident, has become the dependant in the family. As the circumstances asked for it, Shalini had to support her mother since then.
NDTV reports that during school breaks, Shalini’s routine starts from 4.30 AM with putting rangoli in front of the houses, clean vessels, wash clothes and then head back home to study during the night after a long day of domestic work. Shalini did her primary education in Tamil medium then moved to Kannada medium and then finally moved to English medium, Pre University College.
Certainly her hard work paid off with brilliant results in the examination giving a bright hope to the family. Shalini’s mother Vijaya who studied till Class 5, encourages her daughter to study as much as she can and stands as a biggest inspiration to her daughter.
Shalini motivates several other students who face the similar circumstances as her, to not be apathetic to the challenges life throws at us.
