Doldrums In IT Hirings: Nasscom
BENGALURU: Information and Technology sector measures a major part of workforce every year. Recently Nasscom mentioned in one of its reports that the rate of hiring in IT sector is set to slow down in the coming years. As per the survey, the sector is believed only to create 30,000 or 13 percent lesser jobs in 2016 fiscal if compared to the past years, reports the Economic Times.
As it is, much advanced technologies are taking place over many job roles and companies are demanding more productivity for the wages paid. R Chandrashekharan, chairman of Nasscom and executive vice chairman of Cognizant India said, “We will continue to be a net hirer, but the pace of hiring would change.”
Nasscom has predicted that the net job additions don’t include 2 lakh replacement in the 2016 fiscal. Sagar Rastogi, analyst of Ambit Capital said, “Hiring will definitely be slower than the revenue growth. Not just because of automation but also because IT companies are trying to make their existing employees more productive. The slow pace will affect the middle management as well lower rung of employees doing work that can be automated.”
Technology now-a-days is growing so fast that if a man had the capability of doing 10 tasks at a time, he will now be able to do 100 in that time. India can no more be called the country with low cost jobs and tech enabled work will not lead to the same pace of hiring. Recruiters say that they will be focusing more on product companies than IT service firms. CEO of Magna Infotech, Anurag Gupta, said that as the recruitment will go down by 5-10 percent, it will be tougher for them to get 10-15 percent higher value per candidate.
With the demand of additional skills, recruiting companies will look for an experienced workforce rather than the fresh graduates. Capgemini employs 56,000 in India and is planning to make it up to a round figure of 70,000 by the end of 2016, but preference will be mostly given to the experienced candidates.
The report even said that InfosysBSE planned to hire only 30,000 students from the campus which is lowest in last three years.
