Do You Think Male Attention at Work Can Ruin Your Career?
Bangalore: Do you prefer to wear sexy outfits at workplace? If yes, then keep in mind that too much attention from your male co – workers at work could affect your performance, reveals a new study conducted at the University of Nebraska, reports the cosmopolitan website.
According to the findings of the research, women who were subjected to an "objectifying gaze" by men performed less well at math’s tests than those who were not. However, the findings also demonstrated that, men's performance was unaffected whether they were gazed by women or not.
During the experiment, researchers involved 150 undergraduate men and women students to participate in an exercise which they were told was on team work. They were asked to solve 12 math’s’ problems in just 10 minutes. Some subjects were starred thoroughly by an interviewer of the opposite sex as they entered the room. It was observed that women, who were ogled at, got less than five questions right on average, whereas those who were not scored an average of six.
"It creates this vicious cycle for women in which they’re under-performing in maths or at work, but they’re continuing to want to interact with the person who’s making them under-perform in the first place." said Dr Sarah Gervais.
As mentioned in the “Times of India”, according to experts there are certain garments you should never wear at workplace like Midriff tops, miniskirts, Track suits, leggings, novelty t-shirts, thongs and facial piercings.
