Laying excessive emphasis on Reference Checks
While reference checks are a necessary step to verify the credential and claims of an applicant, the report suggest that laying too much emphasis on it would be of little use. Three quarters of the total participants favor reference check and about 60 percent of them are of the opinion that 30 percent or lesser of all candidates tend to fake references and identifying them is a tough from an employer’s perspective. Multiple level checks should be in place and hiring decisions should be based on the applicant’s performance.

The report also puts forward a few viable options to avoid bad hires. It suggests that conducting video interview is a better alternative to telephonic interviews and that it is increasing being adopted by recruiters. 52 percent of the participants adhered to the fact that they would conduct video interviews as it offers better screening. Analyzing the social foot print of applicants is an easy way to identify his/her all round compatibility to the work environment. Candidates should also learn to use social media sensibly as they stand the possibility of being reviewed by employers.
