Boost in Telecom Sector Employment Opportunities

BENGALURU: According to India Skills Report 2016, a growth of 20 percent in hiring is forecasted in the telecom industry in 2016. The telecom and the allied sectors will be generating more than 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the upcoming years, as reported by The Economic Times. This finding is proved to be a turnaround for telecom sector, which was marked as an industry that hired lowest number of employees in 2015.

In India, 82 percent of the urban and 18 percent of the rural population is currently dependent upon mobile and internet, while the subscriber count is rapidly increasing for services such as fixed line, wireless, and broadband services. This ever-increasing user base along with benefits given by government like auction of 3G and 4G spectrum is fuelling the large-scale hiring in the telecom and allied service sector.

The maximum number of hiring will be done for the engineering category that amounts to 43.17 percent of the overall vacancies. The next on the hiring list are the diploma holders from Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) amounting to 25.18 percent. 14.39 percent of the total hiring is estimated to be for management graduates while the remaining 17.26 percent will mark the miscellaneous positions.

Furthermore, employers have not made any major notable changes in their pattern of hiring. Considering the benefits like decrease in attrition, low sourcing time, and minimum cost, internal referrals are marked as the most preferred method of sourcing in this sector. Other preferred methods for recruitment are job portals and social media while consultants have lost their position as the sourcing channel.
