Apple Announced the Opening of a New Office in Hyderabad
BENGALURU: In India, Apple Maps has remained a neglected application and does not offer features like 3D views, Public Transit system, and options for shopping, coffee, restaurants, etc—that Maps in U.S., Europe and China provide. Recently Apple announced its plans to open a new development office at Hyderabad, thus bringing an end to the neglected days.
The office, with about 150 employees, will focus on development of Maps for the various Apple Products in turn accelerating Map development in India and creating about 4000 jobs. “Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Map development,” says Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. He further continues, “The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations.”
Although the investment behind this project is not specified, it is estimated to be around $25 million (Rs 170 crore). The new facility, located on the Waverock campus, will provide LEED- certified home for the expanding Maps team. This is not the first time the company has opened development centre outside the U.S. Apple had opened one in Italy on January 2016. With iPhone sales in India rising, the firm is planning to take the Indian market more seriously.
