7 Skills You Need to Succeed at Work

4. Cross cultural competency

It is not just the ability to work in different linguistic or cultural settings, but in groups including different generations or people with varied skills and working styles. In a globally connected world, a worker’s skill set will be posted in number of locations. For organizations, diversity is like a driver of innovation.

Diversity hence will become a core competency for organizations over the next decade. Successful employees within the diverse teams need to be able to identify and communicate point of connections that transcend their differences and enable them to build a healthy relationship.

5. Computational thinking

As the amount of data that we have at our disposal increases exponentially many more roles will require computational thinking skills in order to make sense of this information. In addition to developing computational thinking skills, workers will need to be aware of its limitations.

This needs an understanding that models are only as good as the data feeding them, even the best models are approximations of reality and not reality itself. Also workers must remain able to act in the absence of data.
