Petroleum Engineering
Annual salary: 2.18 lakh to 22.81 lakh (as per Pay Scale)
Petroleum engineering is a niche topic of engineering that requires both math and science skills to study about hydrocarbons, fluid mechanics, geology and drilling systems.
Petroleum engineers generally design and develop methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the earth’s surface. Some of these engineers also look to find new ways to extract oil and gas from older wells and generally work in offices or in research laboratories.
According to BLS report, employment of petroleum engineers is projected to grow 26 percent by 2022 and as higher prices lead to increasing complexity of oil companies operations, this process requires more engineers for each drilling operation.
