62 Percent of Indian Workers Take Sick Leave to Relax at Home
The survey also highlighted that amid the countries surveyed France had the least number of employees, with only sixteen percent of them claiming that they have taken false sick leave. The survey noted that, 44 percent employees in India stated that they called in sick because they felt depressed or needed a day off from work. Staying at home and watching TV was the top choice of employees at India and Mexico, the other preference to take false sick leave was to meet friends and relatives.
Most employees around the world opined that in order to prevent this practice, employers should provide an opportunity to work from home or allow the employees to take unpaid leave. However 24 percent of employees in India also claimed that providing more paid time off to employees would make a huge difference.
Further, the survey also stated that these kind of unscheduled absences, cost companies 8.7 percent of payroll every year. In all the regions of the world majority of workers highlighted that, they are also being negatively affected if a co- worker called in sick as they had to take on the extra work or shift of the missing employee.
