Software engineers are among the many employees with the largest projected job growth in the progressing year. The surprising factor in this arena is that even people without a traditional background in the field can successfully make the shift. According to a 2015 survey of developers by Stack Overflow, a mammoth 48 percentage of candidates never received a degree in computer science. On the contrary, this is a field where employees need very specialized skills that probably the current role never offered. These skills are very learnable; in the Stack Overflow survey, 41.8 percentage of respondents report to being self taught, and a 27.4 percentage attended bootcamps, online classes, Industry certification programs, avenues that provide built-in structure, mentorship and connections with companies that are hiring. Many others are said to have learned via on-the-job training. Practice well and highlight projects that can show off to hiring managers.
