50 Pct Men Fully Engaged Against 39 Pct Women at Work

BENGALURU: Women are always regarded to have higher sincerity, engagement, and dedication level than men. Remember those college days, where the whole point of ‘mass bunk’ would be flushed out because of that one girl! Well, times have changed. Dale Carnegie Training India recently released an Employee Engagement Whitepaper which stated that female workers in the Indian workforce were seen to be significantly more disengaged than their male counterparts as just 39 per cent of women were fully engaged against 50% men. This study stated that the Indian male workers were way ahead with half of them feeling engaged with their work. "Several HR functions even have gender diversity targets. But the real challenge continues to be high dropout rates and every level of the hierarchy and eventually the glass ceiling," Dale Carnegie Training India Chairperson and MD Pallavi Jha said.

The main reason behind this contrasting difference between the working men and women as highlighted in the report was that the expectations Indian women had from their workplaces were most often not being met, especially in contrast to their male peers. As a result, this leads to disillusionment with the organization leading to low productivity and lower retention in some cases. The study also broke down women and men engagement according to the various designations. In case of women, 63% of women were fully engaged to work. The percentage comes down at managerial level, as only 42% women were found by the study to be engaged at this level. The percentage is the lowest at professional jobs like attorney, engineer, and sales etc. where only 18 percent were fully engaged at work. "In order to understand how to retain women and grow them it is imperative that organizations look at engagement more holistically," Jha added.

Various measures are now been undertaken by organizations to make sure that the gender diversity is maintained at their work place, so that their women employees are fully engaged.
