3 IITs Among Asia's Best Universities
Bangalore: Three Indian institutions, namely IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bombay and IIT-Roorkee, have made it to the list of the inaugural ‘Top 100 Universities in Asia’ released by Times Higher Education magazine. But unfortunately, none of the IITs have managed to feature in the top 25 list, as reported by M Ramya of TNN and Abhay Anand of India Education Review.
IIT-Kharagpur stands at 30th position with an overall score of 41.6, IIT-Bombay has been ranked 33rd with a combined score of 40.6, and IIT-Roorkee occupies the 56th slot with a score of 29.9. The pole position was grabbed by the University of Tokyo with a combined score of 78.3, closely followed by National University of Singapore with an overall score of 77.5, University of Hong Kong with a score of 75.6 and Peking University with 70.7 rating points.
According to the Times Higher Education, the ranking is based on the same criteria as The World University Rankings by Thomson Reuters and it employs 13 carefully calibrated performance gauges in knowledge transfer, research, international outlook and teaching.
