London: A total of 28,000 British policemen would lose their jobs in the next four years due to government spending cuts, a police association has said.
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) calculated the expected staff loss from 43 forces in England and Wales, and presented a report to the government, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The coalition government had decided to cut policing funding by 20 percent.
The ACPO report said 12,000 front line police officers will lose their jobs, while another 16,000 office staff will bear the brunt of the spending cuts.
The British police currently employs 244,000 people, of which 143,000 are officers and 101,000 are civilian staff.
