2013 Placements Are A Let Down For New IITs

Bangalore: When one hears of an IITian, a stable career and a fat salary package comes to mind. However, recent trends in campus recruitment and salary packages at the new IITs are breaking this notion. Companies that recruited in large numbers earlier are staying away, students in certain streams are facing difficulty, and colleges are finding it hard to place their students as they outnumber the actual requirements.

It is reported that the public sector undertaking (PSUs) companies are staying away from campus recruitments. Companies such as Power Grid Corporation of India, BSE, HPCL, BPCL and others that have hired in large numbers earlier, have not been so keen this time around. There is news from some placement agencies that these corporations may avoid the recruitments altogether. Apart from Facebook, many American companies that do not have operations in India are not recruiting from any of the IITs. There's no trace yet of Twitter, which paid big bucks in the last recruitment season. This has led to disappointments at the new IIT campuses.
