IBM [International Business Machines Corporation] is an American multinational technology and consulting firm, started in 1911 and is head quartered in Armonk, New York, U.S.A. The company is into manufacturing and selling computer hardware and software parts, and it also offers infrastructure, hosting as well as consulting services in the areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology.   In the year 2012, during the month of February, an organization by IBM employees named the Alliance@IBM released a data that stated that, IBM has cut of 1,202 jobs in various business units throughout the world, especially, in the United States where the employees faced the major job cuts and then followed by their neighboring nation Canada, as said by Lee Conrad, the coordinator of the Alliance@IBM group.

According to IBM Spokesperson in the United States, Doug Shelton, as said to Bloomberg, the job cuts can be because, the company is trying to reduce its staff in one unit of the company and hiring candidates in other units that are based on client demand and also because of the shift in technology. As he opines, this method helps the company to remain competitive in the industry.
