In spite of a 0.3 percent (approximately $306) drop in average pay, the mid-Atlantic powerhouse managed to suppress stiff competition from Los Angeles and Seattle to retain its No. 2 spot from the previous year.

1. Silicon Valley

Average pay in the Mecca of IT professionals is approximately around $108,603, which is the highest in the list. This is an increase by about 7.2 percent or approximately $7,325 compared to the previous year. Though this numbers are not as high as in 2011 when the figures were at their peak, they are still high enough to land this vibrant city at the top of our list.

Apart from being the only metropolis to boast a median pay in the six figures, the city is also known for offering annual bonus of around $12,458, which is among the best in the world.
