IIT Kharagpur was established to train scientists and engineers after India attained independence in 1947. It shares its organizational structure and undergraduate admission process with other IITs in the country, and is one of the pioneering technological institutes that India has ever produced.
Among all IITs, IIT Kharagpur has a huge campus of 2,100 acres with 34 departments, centers, and schools which approximately can accommodate 10,000 undergraduates, postgraduates, and research scholars. The institution has nearly 600 faculty members, with global exposure in fields of science and engineering.
