Only 12pct of Employees Served a Decade in a Single Job: Study

BANGALORE: The boost of aspiring mobile career has lowered employee tenures through monotonous positions in organizations holding a large number of people spending a minimum of two-five year on their present tenures, reports TOI.

As per the study by Executive Access India shows that around 64pct of the respondents that had been surveyed held their present positions for five years less while close to 35 pct of those surveyed had two years and less. On the other hand, a small fraction of 12pct have held a single roles that exceeded over 10 years which was double the number over a decade ago, according to statistics.

Ronesh Puri, MD, Executive Access India said "It is alarming that the number of people delivering shorter tenures in an organization is as high as 88pct. There is scope for this 12pct to come down further as the younger generation gets into senior roles. For the older generation, there was a loyalty factor with the organization. The younger generation does not believe in loyalty and give higher importance to self."

Over the last 6months replacement hiring has reached up to 60pct or more in contrast to the normal occurrence of having 50-50 shared between replacement hiring and fresh hiring."Both organizations and people are becoming impatient as this is the age of instant results and instant gratification," Puri added.

In comparison to compensation factors pertaining to developing a new skill, getting into a new trade of business or even the thrill of a high risk rewarding job is anticipated to the prime motivators.

Chief HR officer, Prithvi Shergill of HCL Technologies, stated that choosing the right people at the right time for the right job while keeping in mind the strengths of the individual is important in guaranteeing their retention.

Companies are well aware of the multiple choices put forward before employees in terms of career alternatives which fuel the growth of their talents.
