Physician Assistant Studies: Physician assistants are the medical professionals who provide diagnostic and preventative health care services under the supervision of doctors. They are formally educated to examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and provide treatment.
“Both an aging population and health care reform are contributing to a higher demand for health care services,” said Katie Bardaro, Payscale’s lead economist.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of physician assistants is projected to grow 38 percent by 2022. The increased demand for healthcare services will continue to grow because of the aging population and widespread chronic diseases. Combined with a shortage of physicians this will result in increased demand for healthcare providers, such as physician assistants.
